Whitecliff Recreation Ground Play Area

Opening Event, 13th May 2008 - a selection of photos

In honour of its stunning harbour-side location and position as host to the air ambulance landing area, the new play area includes a specially commissioned play helicopter.  HM Coastguard accepted an invitation to attend the official opening, much to the delight of everyone involved.

The Mayor & Mayoress of Poole, Councillor and Mrs Charles Meachin, are greeted by the Head of Leisure Services, Clive Smith (right), and Bernard Ewart (left), former Poole Councillor and our Master of Ceremonies for the day

Happy landings - support staff and crew members (from left) Winchman Duncan Ayles,

Winch Operator Tony Campbell, Chief Pilot Mike Roughton and Co-Pilot Glenn Stacey.

Special thanks to Pip Hall (second from left above) from the Poole Coastguard team who organised the visit

The crew are introduced to Parkstone Ward Councillor Ann Stribley (front right) and Councillor Peter Adams, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment who commented: “There is a lovely feel to the new play area. The vibrant and contemporary design really captures Whitecliff’s setting and offers a fun and challenging play experience for all ages.“

The crew find their way to the play helicopter, supervised by a young officer of the law

They are joined by the Mayor and Mayoress, Councillors Ann Stribley and Peter Adams, together with Parkstone Ward Councillor Tony Woodcock (far right) who is also 'Play Champion' for Poole.  At the front are members of the Lilliput First School school council.

Safely on land, the Mayor expresses his gratitude to the crew for the vital maritime Search & Rescue work they and their colleagues carry out all along our coastline
