Poole Town Cricket Club (PTCC) is regarded as one of the premier cricket clubs in the area, playing at Poole Park and Canford Sports Pitches.
Overall approximately 190 adults and juniors play for the Club's league teams or take part in various coaching initiatives.
PTCC are one of Dorset Cricket Board's Focus Clubs, are Clubmark accredited, and produce an annual development plan as required by the English Cricket Board (ECB). The club's development plan includes the installation of an artificial wicket at Poole Park to help achieve their aspirations for the junior section.
The artificial wicket was completed on 11th April 2011. In line with the ECB guidance a Single Performance Pad system was selected, which will play within the parameters found on grass and require little maintenance.
Prior to installation of the new wicket the junior led a somewhat nomadic existence. Last summer they played home games at Poole Grammar School (where they also hold outdoor practices), Canford Sports Pitches, Whitecliff, Branksome and Broadstone Recreation Grounds and at Baden Powell School. At times they had three or four sides playing home matches at the same time and did not always have access to these grounds due to school matches, other club requirements, etc.
With the installation of the artificial wicket at Poole Park, together with some additional equipment to facilitate practicing, the club will be able to move a significant amount of their junior activity to the park and make it their home for both sections.
Poole Park is an inspiring venue - having more junior cricket played there will undoubtedly boost participation by local young people.
