Please Note: an application has been made for 'town green' status for Harbourside Park, and in October the Leisure Services unit was advised not to progress these projects in the short term. Updates will be posted here once the application has been determined, which could be several months.

The linked open spaces of Baiter and Whitecliff Recreation Ground are collectively known as 'Harbourside Park'. Spanning the northern shores of Parkstone Bay in Poole Harbour, this is one of the most popular and intensively used areas of recreational land in Poole.
The proposals for Harbourside Park (subject to determination of the 'town green' status application)
What’s proposed for Baiter?
Footpaths We propose to upgrade to a tarmac surface the existing gravel footpaths that link Newfoundland Road car park with the area behind the cycle speedway and the skate park to the promenade (footpath marked in red on the proposal plan, above right).
Wildlife habitat New pond creation and clusters of tree planting to enhance the wildlife habitat of the area.
More Green Gym equipment Following the very successful introduction of Green Gyms earlier this year (29 pieces of outdoor fitness equipment through Harbourside Park) Swedish company, HAGS Play Ltd., approached Leisure Services with a proposal to trial a new range of equipment on the open space at Baiter.
HAGS Play provided the first phase of equipment in Poole Park. The new equipment (see images, right) will be the first to be installed anywhere in the UK and, if successful, will be retained to form part of the existing 2Km and 5Km activity routes. Exact locations for the new equipment are to be confirmed.
What’s proposed for Whitecliff?
New Cyclogym The existing BMX dirt track opposite the new play area at Whitecliff will be revitalized with fresh topsoil and the installation of a new range of five ‘cyclogym’ BMX ramps from Proludic Ltd (see images, below right). The project will add to the existing wheeled-play facility at Baiter and provide something new for BMX riders. The wood and steel ramps will be suitable for novices and skilled riders alike.
Footpaths Installation of a new gravel footpath in place of the current informal path from Whitecliff Road (Keyhole Bridge entrance) to the promenade by the improved BMX area (footpath marked in orange on the proposal plan, top right).
More Green Gym equipment Further enhancements are proposed to the range of outdoor fitness equipment along the promenade and beside the car park. Exact equipment and location to be confirmed.
