Work started on
this improvement project on 7th December, but the weather was against us, bringing frozen
ground that became deep mud when it thawed.
We were finally
able to level and seed the damaged areas on 3rd
February and re-opened the play area three days later.
In addition to
providing a good range of new play equipment, the old
equipment has been re-painted, the old rubber surfacing cleaned, and
the old black railings repainted a vibrant blue.
Much of
the new play equipment is set into what is called 'grassmat'; grass
will eventually grow through it to retain the natural look of the
space. The mat prevents wear-and-tear and provides a softer
landing for falls.
A new
litter bin will be installed March/April.

Play designs
were drawn up by Landscape Architect Hilary Martin based around
the wishes expressed by young people and play area users during the
consultation. They include some improvements for the under 8s:
