8 The Year 1 work programme

Listening to what you say...

Children aged 8-13 yrs, parents and carers, ward councillors, voluntary & residents groups, Safer Neighbourhood Teams and our colleagues in the council - we seek a wide range of input into the design of play area improvements:

  • How would you like your play spaces to look?

  • What kind of play experience do you want at your play area?

  • What equipment should we replace and what changes are needed?

  • Are there specific local issues that need addressing?

It's vital to the success of each and every project that we involve as many local people as we can.

Year 1 projects are all but complete now, but if you would like to ensure that you or someone you know is involved in Year 2 play area projects, please contact Sarah any time.

Opening Events

On Monday 15th February the first five refurbished play areas were officially opened on the same day during half term:

Follow the links above for pictures.  Thanks to everyone who braved the cold and damp to come out to help celebrate.  Thanks too to our 'troupe' - the "Play Thinkers", the Play Rangers, street performers Flame, and the Big Chief ice cream van (and Joel & Jade, above) who stayed with us through all five events.

We were also joined by Carolyn Port, Regional Development Officer for Play England, who said: "The Poole Playbuilder team have worked extremely hard and shown great commitment to complete these play areas as part of the DCSF capital programme. Their work has resulted in some excellent new play opportunities for young people in Poole."

Next opening events

  • Friday 9th April - Alexandra Park, Haskells Rec and Uppleby Road play areas - details to be confirmed

  • Friday 16th April - Oakdale Community Park, Lewesdon Drive and Gough Crescent play areas - details to be confirmed
