Important news update 22nd July
The Secretary
of State for Education has announced that the Department of
Education needs to identify savings from a number of capital budgets
in 2010-2011.
The Playbuilder
budget is one of those identified as having to make savings.
With immediate
effect all local authorities have been told to avoid incurring costs
in relation to Playbuilder grant. Regrettably, this means that
the Borough of Poole must suspend any further work on the 11 Year 2
Playbuilder sites until the financial situation is clarified in
November. As soon as we hear anything further we will update
this website. |
In April 2009 Borough of Poole was awarded
more than £1 million by the Government Department
for Children, Schools and Families (on 12 May 2010, superseded by the
Department for Education).
It is to be spent by the end of March 2011
on the improvement of 22 play areas for the 8-13 year
age range.
The programme is split into two
separate years, each of which will develop and deliver 11 projects.
Poole has more than 40 play areas,
and selection of the 22 for improvement
was based primarily on an in-depth assessment of the condition
and play value of the existing facilities.
The first priority of each project is to identify and
talk with school children, other users, neighbours and other local interest
groups to establish their needs, wishes and any concerns.
Year 1
The main consultations were carried out between June and August 2009.
Designs were developed over the following three months and installation
commenced in November 2009, carried out by installation crews from Borough
of Poole's own Grounds Maintenance Team, from Continental Landscapes Ltd
and from Banyards Ltd of Wimborne.
Year
2
Work on consultation prior to the design of Year 2
improvements and designs drawn up in consultation with residents and young
people [more].
Background
In September 2008 Leisure
Services, together with Children and Young People's Services (CYPS),
submitted a bid to the Department for Children, Schools and Families
(DCSF, on 12 May 2010, superseded by the Department for Education) for 'Wave 2 Playbuilder' funding. The success of the
bid was announced in April 2009.
As with all government grants
there are strict criteria to be met and the requirement that project
proposals and management be approved by
Play England who administered the fund on behalf of the DCSF.
The first step toward achieving
the necessary approvals was the production of a
Project Plan, submitted to Play England
on 30th March
