Work started
on site on 4th January 2010; the play area re-opened on11th March,
and it's been great to see families and young people of all ages
enjoying the improvements.
We removed the old climbing frame and in its place
installed a popular Basket Swing; the old roundabout has been
replaced by a Supernova (a spinning ring). In the area of
grass around the existing play space we have installed a fantastic Jungle
Climber and a Gyrospiral (spinning seesaw).
Old play equipment that is staying has been re-painted.
Because young
people wanted to keep some space in the fenced area for ball games
we have installed the zip wire outside it, in the grassy space on the
opposite side of the footpath. We have also created a
second access to the fenced area, with a self-closing gate and short footpath to
a picnic table and the improved play
space. The original entrance also has a new self-closing gate.
We are proud to
have recycled all the spoil generated by excavating new play spaces,
by creating landscape features that 'soften' the area and create
additional play interest. The two mounds behind the picnic
table have a balance beam/informal seat that has been created by
recycling a beach groyne timber that was removed during the recent
beach replenishment project.
