  • Completed and opened Friday 28th May 2010

  • New turf was laid just before the long hot spell and has suffered with the lack of rain at that time; we will review the situation in Autumn

The fenced play space caters for young children.  The majority of improvements are at the upper level.  We removed the old climbing unit and the somersault bar; in their place is a new spiral spinning top and - an additional item to the original plans - a rope bridge.  The springy jumping platforms were always popular so we have installed three new ones.

To enhance the more natural 'softer' feel of the upper level metal barriers and concrete slabs have been replaced with upright wooden posts and a rubber 'mulch' surfacing.  A new bench has been included, and an informal turf & timber seat has also been created at the highest point of the slope.

In the space below, just the two old 'springers' have reached the end of their useful life and will be replaced.

Outside the fenced space, a new rebound wall, buddy swing and zip wire has been installed for older children.  A new bench, seat and litter bin have also been installed.

Progress in pictures (click on an image to enlarge it):

27th May, with the spinning top installed, the finishing touches are put to the rope bridge

28th May, the zip wire and, beyond it, the buddy swing are finally open for use in time for the half term holiday

21st May, surfacing laid at the spinning top and new entrance - a resin-bonded woodland-effect 'Tiger Mulch'

'Tiger Mulch' - a new type of rubber surfacing for play areas, and the first time it's used in Poole

18th May, the pole for the spiral spinning top and, behind, preparing timber for an informal 'viewpoint' seat

19th May, four timber posts to take a new addition to the scheme - a rope bridge

13th May, three new jumping platforms for younger users

14th May, a new retaining wall of timber posts

The rebound wall

13th May, the zip wire is installed

24th March, the buddy swing area has been reinstated with turf in preparation for its play surface

24th March, installation of the rebound wall is complete; the sports surface will be laid next Monday

22nd March, the frame for the buddy swing has been installed; a green rubber 'grassmat' surface will be laid below it

22nd March, the rebound wall is taking shape

Play equipment in the fenced space has been repainted and is open for use whilst works go on outside

16th March, the rebound wall is the first installation; a stone base is required beneath the all-weather surface

Project delays:

Work that started on the installation of the new rebound wall (8th December) was halted when neighbours expressed concerns about the design.

On 15th February 2010 the project came under review due to the ongoing concerns of local residents and on 9th March the go-ahead was given by Councillors, subject to minor revisions to the original design (explained below).
