Playbuilder project list

Listed here are the 22 play areas that have been selected to benefit from Playbuilder funding.

Selection criteria were agreed with Play England and are listed below.

Poole has 43 play areas that might have qualified for Playbuilder funding; those that are not included in this programme are listed separately.

Play areas below are grouped by year for improvement, and then alphabetically by Ward.  They are not necessarily in the order in which they will be improved; timing will largely depend on progress of the participation process for each project.

* Year 1 runs from April 2009 - March 2010; Year 2 from April 2010 - March 2011

** Playbuilder funding for the 8-13 yr olds will be augmented by ward-based Planning Obligations to pay for improvements for the under 8's age group at these play areas.

Selection criteria:

Playbuilder selection criteria were agreed with Play England and sites that would not qualify include:

  • play areas that are new, newly refurbished or undergoing refurbishment (11 sites)

  • play areas on land that is not owned by the Borough of Poole

  • play areas that are unsuitable for improvement for the age group specified in the funding agreement (8-13 yrs).

Also taken into account during the selection process was:

  • Poole's Social Deprivation Index and Local Areas of Need

  • the availability of other funding (such as ward-based Planning Obligations) to carry out play area improvements at another time - where significant funding is available the play area(s) are unlikely to have qualified for Playbuilder funding

  • safe travel and access (e.g. is the site directly accessible from a cycleway?)
